On the night before Summerslam, The Barclays Center in New York will host NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II. I’m insanely jealous of everyone living in the area and with the money to travel who gets to attend what will be an amazing show. NXT is everything right about wrestling; they know their product, they know their fans, and they know exactly what to do and how to do it to produce A+ shows on a consistent basis. Let’s take a look at the Takeover match card and make some predictions.
Ember Moon vs Billie Kay – Singles Match
You may know the mysterious Ember Moon better as Athena if you are familiar with Shimmer, Women Superstars Uncensored, or Anarchy Championship Wrestling where she has competed regularly. Moon has wrestled since 2007, training at Reality of Wrestling, formerly known as Booker T’s Pro Wrestling Alliance. She signed with NXT in September 2015, making her in-ring debut in October in a tag match. She also competed in a dark match at NXT Takeover: The End in June 2016. Moon has held multiple championships and was ranked number 23 of the top 50 female wrestlers in Pro Wrestling Illustrated in 2014. With Nia Jax now on the main roster, I’m thinking that Moon is stepping up to fill Jax’s former role of the strong arm and unstoppable force. I’m excited to see what she has in store for us. She’ll be facing Billie Kay, who is a strong opponent and doesn’t hold back in the ring. I hope Moon lives up to the hype and gives Kay a run for her money.
F2H Prediction – Ember Moon
The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) (c) vs Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa – NXT Tag Team Championship Match
The Revival are two time tag champions and are currently the most dominant team in NXT. Dawson and Wilder took the titles back from American Alpha and have called all the other tag teams unworthy ever since. Both TM61 and Ciampa and Gargano wanted a shot at the titles, but TM61 missed out on their shot this time around. Ciampa and Gargano recently competed against each other at the Cruiserweight Classic, and it was the best match they’ve had so far. Dawson and Wilder are talented, but their opponents are equally as so, and they just might have the edge here. This is going to be a fast-paced, action filled fight that you won’t want to miss.
F2H Prediction – Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa
No Way Jose vs Austin Aries – Singles Match
I’m a big fan of No Way Jose. On the surface, he’s a goofy dancing gimmick that is geared towards the kids, but underneath the big hair and dance moves, he’s a serious wrestler. His opponent is the greatest man who ever lived, Austin Aries, who is a serious athlete in his own right. Aries was a powerhouse in Impact Wrestling and brought all that intensity with him when he signed with NXT. Their feud started innocently enough, with Jose trying to help Aries, and Aries turning on his new friend. We got to see the intense side of Jose for the first time, and it came across beautifully. He can play both the goofball and the powerhouse with minimal effort. I’m expecting to see a lot of high flying and risky moves in this match.
F2H Prediction – Austin Aries
Andrade “Cien” Almas vs Bobby Roode – Singles Match
I’m thrilled that Roode is finally making his on-screen debut. My husband and I were lucky enough to see him compete at an NXT live event back in July, and the crowd reaction he received was very positive. He has established himself as a serious heel and makes a perfect opponent for Almas. Like Roode, Almas is also very new to NXT and has established himself as a strong competitor. This will be interesting, as the two men have very different wrestling styles. I quite honestly don’t know what to expect out of this match, but it should be a good one.
F2H Prediction – Bobby Roode
Asuka (c) vs Bayley – Women’s Championship Match
Ever since Bayley lost the Women’s title to Asuka, she has been on a rough path to redemption. Bayley connects with fans in a way few others are able to, and she is well respected backstage. Asuka is quite different from Bayley as far as personality goes. She doesn’t try to connect with fans or colleagues. Instead, she looks to dominate and intimidate. Bayley was not pinned and did not submit when she lost the title to Asuka; she passed out and was unable to continue the match, so the referee called the match in Asuka’s favor. If she can avoid being caught in the Asuka Lock again, she definitely has a great chance at winning. Bayley doesn’t give up. On the flip side, Asuka has never had to give up because she always comes out on top. This match will be a wonderful example of what women’s wrestling can and should be, and is 100% main event worthy.
F2H Prediction – Bayley
Samoa Joe (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura – NXT Championship Match
I absolutely cannot wait to see this match! Samoa Joe has been on a warpath ever since signing with NXT, and succeeded in taking the title off of Finn Balor to become our reigning NXT champ. Shinsuke Nakamura has gone undefeated since his debut with NXT and shows no signs of slowing down. Nakamura is one of a kind and captivates the audience in a way no one else quite can. I’m so excited to see Nakamura getting a title shot. He stated that he had to beat the icon, Finn Balor, before becoming champion and he accomplished exactly that. Now, he’s on his way to the top of the company. Unfortunately for him, he has a giant obstacle in his way. These two are so vastly different in every imaginable way except for one; both can hit hard and hit often. This main event could quite possibly overshadow everything we see at Summerslam; it wouldn’t be the first time that NXT has outdone the main roster. Whatever you do, do not miss this.
F2H Prediction – Shinsuka Nakamura
